Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, School of Medicine – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City was established in 2012 according to Decision No. 172-QD/DTN. It was subsequently assigned to the VNUHCM Youth Union of Public Agencies, as stated in Decision No. 173-QD/DTN dated May 7, 2012. Later in July 2019, it transformed into the Chapter Youth Union under the HCMC Youth Union.

Over the course of a decade, the SoM Youth Union has demonstrated its commitment to fulfilling its role as the primary socio-political organisation for the SoM Youth Union members and students. Throughout this time, Youth Union has successfully organised numerous impactful activities and programmes, fostering a culture of initiative, creativity, and courage that has become synonymous with SoM students. These efforts have significantly contributed to the development of SoM, Ho Chi Minh City, and the nation as a whole. Notably, the Youth Union has actively participated in recent years’ efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, further demonstrating its dedication to social responsibility.

School of Medicine Youth Organisation has been actively initiating various movements and campaigns to engage its members and promote positive change. Notable initiatives include the “Student with Five Good Merits“, “Green Summer Volunteering Campaign“, “Spring Volunteering Campaign“, and the School of Medicine writing contest. These efforts have led to a growing number of students who excel in their studies and practical endeavors, serving as inspirations for their peers within the school environment. The movements aim to harness the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of the youth, attracting significant participation from union members and young individuals.

The participation of School of Medicine Youth Union in the efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic

In line with their commitment to improving the lives of people, SoM – VNUHCM has been actively joined in building civilised urban, new-style rural areas programme. As an exemplary project, “Rural Road Belt Line, Hamlet 6, Tan Phuoc Tay Commune, Tan Tru District, Long An Province” project was initiated in 2019 and successfully completed on January 15, 2020. This endeavor involved collaboration between the SoM – VNUHCM, FICO Tay Ninh Cement Joint Stock Company, and the local government and residents of Long An province to invest in construction efforts. Through these concerted efforts, the School of Medicine has demonstrated its dedication to social responsibility and community development, making significant contributions to building a better society.

Throughout its history, the School of Medicine Youth Union has successfully held 4 Congresses, with active participation from over 1,000 Youth Union members in various activities. The organisational structure of the Youth Union consists of the Executive Committee of the School Youth Union, which oversees the operations and is supported by 15 affiliated Branches and 6 Clubs within the School of Medicine. These include the School of Medicine Academic Club (SMAC), the VNUHCM Pharmacy Organisation – IPSF, WINGS VNUHCM, MEDVNU’s Channel, the Social Work Team – SoM-VNUHCM, and HCMC MEDVNU’s Dental Students Club.
