Deputy Minister of Health visited and worked with the School of Medicine Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City.

On the afternoon of 23rd June, 2023, a delegation of the Ministry of Health led by Assoc. Prof. PhD. Nguyen Thi Lien Huong – Deputy Minister of Health as Head of the delegation visited and worked with the School of Medicine Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City.
Accompanying the delegation were leaders of Departments, Departments and units under the Ministry of Health: Ministry’s Office; Department of Organisation and Personnel; Department of Planning and Finance; Department of International Cooperation; Department of Science, Technology and Training; Department of Medical Examination and Treatment; Department of Traditional Medicine and Pharmacy; Department of Preventive Medicine; Department of Health Environment Management; Department of HIV/AIDS Prevention; Health and Life Newspaper; Chairman of the Council of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
Receiving and working with the delegation, on the side of Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, there is Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Minh Tam – Deputy Director, Head of Office and functional departments; on the School of Medicine, there is Prof. Dr. Dang Van Phuoc – Dean, Deputy Directors, and representatives of the practice facilities of the School of Medicine.
At the meeting, Prof. PhD. MD. Dang Van Phuoc – Dean of the School of Medicine presented an overview of the development process of the School of Medicine, the highlights in the training and people’s health care activities that the School of Medicine – VNU-HCM has achieved. Meanwhile, Prof. PhD. MD. Dang Van Phuoc also reported on the development orientation of the University of Health Sciences, a member university of Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City in the future.
This will be a place to apply links with other scientific disciplines in the VNU-HCM system to create products on interdisciplinary scientific training and research with characteristics of VNU-HCM while effectively contributing to the cause of health care for the people.
Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Minh Tam, Vice President of VNU-HCM, expressed his honor that this is the first time VNU-HCM as well as the School of Medicine – VNU-HCM welcomed and worked with the Deputy Minister of Health. The direction from the Deputy Minister is very important to the development path ahead of the School of Medicine. VNU-HCM will prioritise investment and support resources for the School of Medicine to ensure a multidisciplinary and multidisciplinary ecosystem; as well as hope that the School of Medicine – VNU-HCM will absorb the direction of the Deputy Minister, actively implement effectively in the coming time.
During the meeting, the leaders of the School of Medicine also made a number of recommendations and proposed issues related to undergraduate and postgraduate training, as well as the project of developing the School of Medicine into a University of Health Sciences. Members of the delegation of the Ministry of Health exchanged and clarified a number of recommendations and proposals of the School of Medicine – VNU-HCM as well as suggested orientations to remove difficulties in the coming time. In particular, the meeting focused on in-depth discussion on issues related to the construction of human resources to meet the organisational structure of the University of Health Sciences, the determination of job positions, professional titles, practice facilities, capacity standards for Preventive Medicine Doctors, etc.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Health Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thi Lien Huong has recognised and appreciated the efforts and enthusiasm in the training of the Schôl of Medicine in recent years. Particularly, VNU-HCM has paid close attention to all aspects, investing in modern facilities and equipment to create the best conditions for teaching and learning. The Deputy Minister also agreed with and supported the policy of renovating the training programme that the School of Medicine is implementing, as well as promoting the quality accreditation of domestic and international training programmes, aiming at deep international integration.
The Deputy Minister also emphasised, in the coming time, for the School of Medicine to further develop, it is necessary to pay attention to the following issues: Firstly: Consensus has not increased the enrollment quota at this time; Secondly: VNU-HCM creates conditions to quickly build a pre-clinical practice center to create the best learning conditions for students; Thirdly: Assign the Department of Science, Technology and Training to study more reasonable mechanisms for practice-related issues for pharmacy students. The Deputy Minister of Health also received comments from the Vietnam National University and the leaders of the School of Medicine – VNU-HCM, from which the relevant Departments and Departments continued to study and advise on proposals, creating favorable conditions for the School of Medicine to successfully complete the set targets and tasks.
Within the framework of the visit and work, the delegation of the Ministry of Health also visited the Anatomical Practice Area, the Pre-clinical Practice Area, the Anatomical Simulation Department of the School of Medicine. These are places that help students gain practical competencies, increase confidence and efficiency before going to the clinic at the hospital.
The visit of Deputy Minister of Health Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thi Lien Huong and the delegation confirmed the Ministry of Health’s interest in promoting health science training of Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. This is also the motivation for the staff and lecturers of the School of Medicine to unanimously develop the School of Medicine to a new level.
